Archbishop of New York Timothy Dolan Endorses "The Way"

  • Written by Archbishop Timothy Dolan

“Ever since I was a teenager, and I first heard about the Camino – the way – I’ve wanted to make the sacred pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The wonderful new movie from Emilio Estevez and Martin Sheen, The Way, made me feel as if I had actually journeyed on the pilgrimage – and only reinforced my determination to make this spiritual journey for myself.

As with any pilgrimage, the Camino is much more than a vacation or a sight-seeing trip. It is an opportunity for prayer and a strengthening of faith. The four pilgrims in this movie, each making the journey for a different reason, band together for an unexpected but ultimately enriching process of self-discovery as they travel together to the burial place of Saint James the Apostle.

Beautifully shot and wonderfully acted, this movie inspired me. I encourage everyone to join in The Way!”

Timothy Dolan,

Archbishop of New York,

President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Religious Education Parent Information

  • Written by Denise Cook

Dear Parents,

Our Religious Education classes fill a vital need in the lives of our children, teaching them about Jesus and living a life based on loving and just actions.  The Catholic Church teaches YOU are the primary educator of your children; our classes only supplement what you are doing in your homes.  We would like to thank you for sending you children to these classes.

This year there is a change to Rel. Ed.  We will hold classes on Sunday’s from 10am-10:45am.  Class begins immediately after 9am Mass and our first class is Sept. 11th.  On the back of this letter is the schedule for first semester, please keep this for your reference throughout the semester.

You will see there is a School Mass on Sept. 25th.  This will happen once a month and we will have the students sign up to participate.  There is something for everyone to do, so please make sure your student(s) take part in at least one Mass each semester.  We would like the children to sing at the Mass on the 25th.  Those interested may stay after class on the 18th for about 15 minutes to practice with Gwen Mitchell-Doyle and Jennifer Langan.  They will pick songs the kids are familiar with.  Eventually we will have a Children’s Choir and students playing instruments.

Also note that on November 6th Alice Heinzen is coming to speak to all parents.   Fr. Emmanuel expects all parents to come and listen to this dynamic speaker.  She will speak from 12:30pm-2:15pm, a time chosen keeping the Packer game in mind! There will be no class that morning.  We will have somebody come to speak to the students at the same time as Alice.  A reminder note will be sent home closer to the date.

The weekend of November 11th the Confirmation Students will be going to the Chula Vista Resort for their retreat.  The deadline is October 17th; we will send that information home the first day of class.   One last date: we will have the Christmas program, Wednesday December 21st in the evening.

Thank you again for supporting your child(ren) as they grow in their relationship with Christ our Savior.

Peace and blessings,

Denise and Jan
